Oldsmobiling with Fun and Friendship

2012 OLDSMOBILES AT CARLISLE GM NATIONALS HOSTED BY BLUE/GRAY CHAPTER AND THE D.V.O.C.

Since 2001 the Carlisle GM Nationals have aimed to be the preeminent stop for fans of the GM brand and as the 12th event has come and gone, the weekend once again proved its worth. Over 100 years of GM history was on display, ranging from an early 1900's Carter Car to current model year automobiles. The cars, new and old, served as a great centerpiece to an always-popular family-themed weekend.

The 12th Annual GM Nationals at Carlisle was an event everyone in the motor sports hobby should have attended!

The three day weekend in beautiful Carlisle Pennsylvania, celebrated 12 years featuring General Motors built and imported vehicles exclusively at one show which draws people from all over the U.S.A. and across the globe.

As always the folks at Carlisle Events put on a fantastic show. I must signal out Rick Markko who made all of us at the Blue Grey and Delaware Valley Clubs feel like we are a part of the Carlisle Family! We had four Celebrity Judges from our clubs, Rich Saullo, President of the Blue/Gray, Rick Tice, Past President and Board Member, Ken Whitcomb, Treasurer/Editor, and Jeff Antonucci President of the Delaware Valley Olds Club.

We enjoyed Celebrity Judge status in selection our “Picks of the Litter” for the event, we hand signed our names to the special awards, and to no great surprise we all selected an Oldsmobile as our choice.

While I am, (of course), an Oldsmobile man dyed in the wool, you cannot help at marveling at the other makes and models in each class and category. When you attend an event of this class it will open ones eyes to the time, dedication and dollars invested by people just like you and me to preserve the history of the American automobile in all it’s glory.

To write an overview of the entire show would take days and pages too much to read and remember, but a few highlights before we get to the Oldsmobile Awards.

One of the great highlights would be the legendary Bruce Larson and his famous funny cars and pleasantly signing autographs for the crowd and also participating as one of Carlisle’s Celebrity Judges for the event. Bruce had his Camaro and Corvette Nitro Burning Cars for a “Cackle Fest” on display right next to our Oldsmobile Club of America Welcome Center and fired up the engines every other hour for all to enjoy.

We had our own member Kerm Shindledecker with his hand built 1955 Olds “88” convertible Drag car who attracted hundreds of people to our all Oldsmobile area.

Bruce Larson gave his Celebrity Judges Award to Kerm and it was much deserved.

Off to the Oldsmobiles

A fine selection of all years and models were handsomely displayed at the 12th Annual event, in fact on Saturday we had to realign our cars to make room for more Rocket Powered autos to park within class. We had taken over the unfilled Pontiac section to allow all our Oldsmobile to park in classes.

As Frank Sinatra would say……Here’s to the winners!

Rich and Sharon Tice of the Blur/Gray chapter won best Oldsmobile of show for their 1985 Hurst Olds Aero Coupe Prototype. Congrats to the Tices!!!!!

We met many new friends and saw a few Olds ones (not a typo) and thank everyone for a great three day weekend. We recruited for the OCA and had many conversations with non members and taught them the benefits of joining both National and local clubs and distributed dozens of applications and issues of JWO and our club newsletters.

Before we part I would be remiss if I did not call attention to the Ghostbusters Ecto Wagon seen below as in all my years of “fooling around” cars I have never seen this much effort put in a car which fits in no category. Truly a “Class of it’s own”

“ Who You Gonna Call”………..Olds Busters………….
