TENTATIVE LIST OF ACTIVITIES AND DAY TRIPS DURING THE 2018 OLDSMOBILE NATIONALS AT GETTYSBURG
The 2018 Oldsmobile Nationals at Gettysburg will kick off with an evening welcome event Thursday, August 2nd at the Historic Battlefields of Gettysburg. We will enjoy two events.
The Visitor Center features activities that provide an excellent introduction to the Battle of Gettysburg and will prepare you for a tour of the Gettysburg battlefield.
Film and Cyclorama
A New Birth of Freedom is a film narrated by Morgan Freeman and sponsored by The History Channel. The Cyclorama is the nation’s largest painting that places visitors in the fury of Pickett’s Charge on the third day of the battle.
The Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War
This museum has 11 exhibit galleries featuring Gettysburg National Military Park artifacts, interactive displays, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute Special Exhibits Gallery. At any time during the week, you may select a battlefield tour by car, walking, or bus.
Trip 1 - Hershey, Pennsylvania
Enjoy the day in Hershey! Bus will leave the Wyndham Wingate and make two stops. First, at the famous Hershey
Chocolate World where you will tour and see the process of making their world famous chocolate and have a bit of shopping time in the Hershey Chocolate store. Make your own candy and so much more. The second stop will be at the Hershey AACA Antique Automobile Museum. The museum features many different themed displays including model railroading and the largest collection of Tucker Automobilia. You do not want to miss this exciting tour.
Trip 2 - Hanover, Pennsylvania and York, Pennsylvania
Visit the world famous Utz Potato Chip and Snack Food Factory in Hanover for a walking tour of the place they have been making the East coast favorites for decades. You will even get a sample at the tours end. Then off to York to tour the Harley-Davidson factory and see why Harley-Davidson is America's premier motorcycle. The tour is a once in a lifetime chance to be up close and watch how the legendary bike is made and learn about the history of this company over the last one hundred plus years.
Trip 3 - York Springs, Pennsylvania and Sabillasville Maryland
This trip is for the true automotive enthusiast. First stop will be the Eastern Museum of Motorsports Racing. The museum is built on a wooded hillside overlooking the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds and Racetrack near York Springs. Along with establishing one the premier racing museums in the country, the 40 acre fairgrounds and racetrack were also passionately restored to their original beauty. This creates an almost magical atmosphere that makes EMMR a "living
museum." Several times each year, EMMR holds public events where these historic cars are again brought to life and can be seen as they were meant to be seen ... on the racetrack! The second stop will be "Gary's Goats" . . . a farm which is like no other you have seen. Gary Cave has the largest corral and museum dedicated to the "Goat" – Pontiac GTO that is. This is a one-of-a-kind stop you won’t want to miss because it features all kinds of automobilia.
"Day for the Ladies"
The Blue Gray Chapter's own Darlene Myers will be the hostess for a Ladies’ Day in historical downtown Gettysburg featuring a luncheon at the historic Dobbins House which is the oldest house in Gettysburg currently an inn. Before and after the luncheon, ladies will enjoy a day in downtown Gettysburg with many historical and shopping opportunities.
The day will close with an optional no cost trolley to the Gettysburg Shopping Outlets
